Eoin Morgan smashed a six on the last ball of the match as Sydney Thunders registered a 6-wicket win over Melbourne Stars in a thrilling match. Eoin Morgan got named as ‘Man of the Match’ for his brilliant unbeaten 71.
After winning the toss, Sydney Thunders opted to bowl first and restricted the stars at the score of 166 where Shane Watson took 3 wickets while Chris Green and Fawad Ahmed shared 4 wickets among them. For Melbourne Stars, Kevin Peterson remained the top scorer with his excellent 60-run inning off 37 balls which consisted of 7 fours and 2 sixes. However, Stars couldn’t keep their performance same in the final overs as they had demonstrated in the first 15 overs. They only scored 17 runs in the last 5 overs while losing 4 wickets as a result of brilliant death bowling performance from Thunders bowlers.
During their chase, Thunders lost 3 quick wickets in succession during the power play and things started looking difficult for them, but Eoin Morgan kept fighting at one end. Match entered the final over and Thunders needed 16 from 6 balls. Although Pat Cummins hit a six on the 3rd ball of the over, it still came down to 6 runs needed off just 1 ball with EoinMorgan on strike. Morgan disappoint and against all odds, smashed a six down the ground off the last ball of the inning. For Stars, Ben Hilfenhaus took 2 wickets while Scott Boland and Adam Zampa managed to take one wicket each.
